Measure the Closed Insulated Parcel Before Requesting Shipping Costs
A quotation for an insulated mailer is a packaging quotation; it is not a shipping-cost quotation for the filled parcel. YUANEN’s self-adhesive foil pouch must be assessed with the actual contents and any agreed outer packaging. Keep the pouch specification for ordering, then create a separate measurement record for the complete closed shipment you intend to hand to the carrier.

Identify the complete shipment before measuring
Record the product container, loaded pouch, selected refrigerant if used, protective materials and outer shipping package. Close the pouch flap and finish the outer package in the intended shipping arrangement. Give that combination a pack-out reference. If the pouch sits inside a carton, the carrier enquiry needs the finished carton’s outside dimensions, rather than its usable inside space or the empty pouch size.
- Packing reference: pouch/sample revision ___; container and contents ___; refrigerant arrangement if applicable ___; protection ___; outer package ___; closed-package photographs ___.
Measure the outside without compressing the pack-out
UPS’s US guide measures package length, width and height and describes irregular parcels by their extreme points as though enclosed in a rectangular box. For your measurement record, capture the actual closed package’s outermost extents and the units used. With a soft outer package, include bulges in that record instead of pressing it into the dimensions of the flat empty bag. Packaging acceptance remains a separate question for the chosen carrier and service.
- Measurement record: pack-out reference ___; outside length ___; width ___; height ___; units ___; measurement date ___; person recording ___; photograph reference ___.
Keep measured values and carrier quotation inputs distinct
Weigh the complete closed parcel and record gross weight with its unit, including the contents and packaging. UPS explains that occupied space can also affect chargeable weight and directs readers to its applicable rate and service guidance. Its page contains different wording about dimension rounding in separate sections. Confirm the current service, route and account rules for rounding, dimensional-weight calculation, limits and charges instead of applying one universal divisor or rounding rule here.
- Raw record: measured outside dimensions and units ___; measured gross weight and unit ___; pack-out revision ___.
- Quotation input: carrier/service ___; rule or guide version ___; dimensions entered ___; weight entered ___; adjustments confirmed by ___; quotation date/reference ___.
Send enough context to reproduce the enquiry
Send the carrier or logistics provider the shipment count, origin and destination, service requested, account or quotation basis, outside dimensions and gross weight, together with the packing reference. Keep the returned quotation and its conditions with that revision. Changing the carton, refrigerant layout, protection or contents can change the record; measure the revised closed parcel rather than copying an old enquiry.
Keep the temperature-control and protection requirements in the packing specification. Do not remove needed refrigerant or force the package smaller just to enter a lower dimension. Ask the responsible team to assess any revised arrangement. For a YUANEN pouch quotation, send the pouch specification and complete pack-out record separately; this article promises no shipping price, savings, carrier approval or thermal duration.
