Commission Opens Consultation on Bio-Based Feedstock in Plastic Packaging

On 21 October 2026, the European Commission opened a public consultation on bio-based feedstock in plastic packaging, closing on 13 January 2027. It seeks evidence on availability, environmental performance and possible policy measures.

A consultation does not approve an order material

The announcement opens an evidence-gathering process. It does not itself establish a new mandatory bio-based percentage or certify a supplier’s packaging. Treat any proposed material substitution as an unresolved purchasing change until its own specification and evidence are reviewed.

Start from the liner actually being quoted

YUANEN’s published foil insulated box liner leaves foam type, thickness and layer arrangement for confirmation. The white foam outer box in its photograph is a demonstration prop outside the liner quotation. Its appearance does not identify a bio-based material.

The following is editorial purchasing guidance. Keep the current drawing or sample reference and the proposed replacement in separate records. Identify the affected layer or part, the proposed specification, the evidence owner and the decision still required. Do not silently replace a quotation specification with a policy-related description.

Review the packing arrangement if a layer changes

For a liner enquiry, ask whether the proposed change affects the usable box interior, liner allowance, top fold or space reserved for the packed contents and coolant. Record which existing sample observations remain relevant and which need review. Retaining the same outer dimensions does not establish equivalent closure or thermal behaviour.

  • Change record: current drawing/sample ___; affected layer/part ___; proposed specification ___; box and fold arrangement ___; evidence and responsible party ___; sample/pack review still needed ___; written decision ___.

Confirm the order independently of the consultation

Send YUANEN the current and proposed versions with the actual packing arrangement. Confirm material, supply scope and sample requirements in writing before changing the order. The consultation is not evidence that this liner has changed, that a new material is available, or that a temperature-holding period has been validated.

The cover shows generic clear film. It does not depict the consultation, identify feedstock origin or provide evidence about a reported company or YUANEN product.
