Eurostat Publishes 2024 EU Plastic Packaging Waste Figures
On 22 October 2026, Eurostat released EU packaging-waste data for 2024. Its plastic-packaging figures describe an economy-wide reporting category, not the recycling outcome of a particular pouch or insulating liner.

Keep the quantities and the published rate distinct
For 2024, Eurostat reports 35.9 kg of plastic packaging waste generated per person in the EU and 15.3 kg recycled. It separately reports a plastic-packaging recycling rate of 42.4%, compared with 41.6% in 2023. Use the published rate rather than replacing it with a ratio calculated from rounded per-person figures.
| Measure | Published figure | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Plastic packaging waste generated | 35.9 kg per person | Plastic packaging, EU, 2024 |
| Plastic packaging waste recycled | 15.3 kg per person | Plastic packaging, EU, 2024 |
| Plastic-packaging recycling rate | 42.4% | Published rate, not recycled content in a product |
Read the scope and methodology with the figures
The source dataset is env_waspac. Eurostat’s notes cover packaging waste from households, businesses and government. The release also flags methodological changes in 2020, including a harmonised recycling calculation point and stricter accounting of composite-material fractions. Keep those notes with any time-series comparison.
The same news item reports 181.0 kg per person for all packaging materials combined. That is a different scope from the 35.9 kg plastic-packaging figure. Neither measure is a search-demand estimate, a product test or an instruction for handling an individual material.
Define what belongs in the packaging record
For YUANEN’s foil insulated box liner, the current product page leaves foam type, thickness and layer arrangement for confirmation. The white foam outer box in the sample photograph is a demonstration prop outside the liner quotation. A record of the liner alone therefore covers different components from a record of the complete box-and-liner pack.
As editorial purchasing guidance, identify the quoted item, the components included in any packaging-mass record, and the actual material specification for each. Ask the supplier to resolve unidentified layers before applying a material-category description. Do not use the EU aggregate rate as a probability that this particular composite liner will be recycled, or as proof of its recycled content.
Keep the enquiry specific to the supplied liner
Send YUANEN the selected liner or sample reference, the components your record includes and the material information still required. Confirm supply scope and specifications in writing. The statistical release does not change the quoted construction or establish local acceptance of the used packaging. The cover shows generic film offcuts, not Eurostat’s survey material or a documented recycling site.
